Alness
is one of the largest towns in the Scottish Highlands and Islands
region, and
West Alness Residents Association (WARA) was established almost 30
years ago to
provide 1000 local households with a representative body which could
speak on
their behalf to local authorities and other agencies. A few years after
its
formation, Highland Council offered WARA the lease to two shop
units
in an area which is associated with high rates of unemployment,
violence, crime,
housing problems and teenage pregnancy.
the committee of volunteers who manage the Community Centre are all local residents, and the ages of members span from sixteen years to seventy!
New volunteers always welcome!!!!
